May we all enjoy the wonderful month of May. The weather is pristine, no longer freezing yet not so hot that I get a sunburn each time I walk outside. May is the best month for the weather, but it also just has a plethora of different things to do. We’ve compiled a few of our favorites here, but make sure you stay tuned to our blog for updates on the latest big events. Alright, let’s show you where we are going this May!
Japan Day in NYC
Many of the best celebrations are cultural celebrations and Japan Day is no exception. The biggest Japanese cultural celebration in the city is also one of the biggest blowouts of the season. Popular mascots will be out en masse, fun activities like learning origami and calligraphy are available for the whole family, traditional cuisine like Gyoza dumplings and Onigiri rice balls are available, and musical performances will be going throughout the whole day. There’s so much fun to be had for everyone in the whole family, so make sure you find your way down to this festival on May 12th at Central Park!
New York Beer Fest
Family-friendly events are great for the little ones, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to leave them behind and have a day of play with other adults. And that’s exactly what the New York Beer Fest is all about. Held at the home of the Mets, Citi Field, the NY Beer Fest is starting to cement itself as one of the city’s most talked about festival. For just $50, you can sample over 200 beers from 80 different craft breweries. Food is available for pairings and, for the baseball heads out there, tours of the field and dugouts are available. Make sure you see where this one is going.
Egypt: The Time of the Pharaohs
This one is a bit cheating because it’s been going on for a few months now, but it’s too cool to not include. Ancient Egypt comes to life at the Cincinnati Museum Center with this exhibit. Over 350 unique artifacts that are over 4,500 years old will all be on display in this breathtaking event, including ancient hieroglyphics, sarcophagi, and busts of ancient rulers. You will learn more at this event than you’ve ever learned about Ancient Egypt and believe me when I say this: you’ll be glad that you went.
Columbus Taco Fest
Sometimes, we want to go do something but don’t want it to hurt our wallet. If that’s the case for you, the Second Annual Columbus Taco Fest is the place for you. Sample some of the many tacos from the city’s best food trucks, but outside of that, enjoy some free music and the company! It’s a community gathering and if you’re in the area, you should definitely be there.
